Its those happy accidents that make life worthwhile. I was driving home after getting my taxes done and decided to treat myself to a good lunch. I knew a Primos was nearby but had inadvertently passed it while looking for it. I searched for a place to turn around and then I smelled it...BBQ...smoked meats...deliciousness. There, next to a tire place was a tiny shack with a small sign " Big Daddy'z BBQ and Grill. All thoughts of a Primo Hoagie were trampled on by a pig. Now, I cant review a BBQ place without mentioning my benchmark, Sweet Lucy's but as good as SL is, its a bit of a hike for me. The prospect of good BBQ right in my backyard had me as excited as a toddler in a room full of porcelain knickknacks. The smell surrounding the place was wonderful, and I noticed the huge smoker outside of the building. A great sign if I ever saw one. Inside, there was barely enough room to move around. This place is takeout only (although I did notice a few park benches outside). The friendly people inside welcomed me and bore with me as I looked over the menu. Its pretty standard BBQ fare, everything that you would want or expect. I went with Hog Heaven: 2 good sized links of smoked kielbasa served on a long roll with sauteed onions, spicy mustard and pulled pork. $9.95. The meal was finished in no time and I was on my way after getting a wonderful Olde Philadelphia Black Cherry to go with it. The assessment: I wasn't impressed by the sides I chose. The Slaw was good but not great. The mac and cheese, while utilizing bacon, was pretty bland. It was just a simple Kraft style creamy cheese. So Ok, I got that out of the way, sides aren't great, but I didn't come here for the sides. Its easy to forgive lackluster sides when THE MEAT IS SO GOOD! Yep, Id put the meat/ sauce over Sweet Lucys, Daves Famous, Jimmys BBQ and Dinosaur BBQ in Syracuse. The pulled pork was perfectly prepared and sauced. Some places go a little dry and offer the extra sauce but I prefer places like Big Daddy'z and Sweet Lucy's that put the right amount on for you. The Kielbasa was the best Id had anywhere. While technically a sandwich, I couldnt pick the thing up and just ate it like a pig in a trough. If you think that is a complaint, think again. Thats good eatin! So Im only giving 4 stars because of the sides and the fact that I need to try their ribs and chicken. If they are as good as I think they will be, sub par sides or not, they will get the 5. I cant tell you how excited I am about such a great find nearby, mostly because my mouth is full with BBQ.

Rating is a 3.5 so I'm rounding up. Food was a nice change of pace for the area so I was very excited to try it out. Smoked BBQ isn't exactly on every corner in Delco. (Practically nonexistent actually, save for chains like famous Dave's or ruby Tuesdays). As I drove to the address I quickly recognized the location but with the addition of a portable smoker outside smoking up the whole parking lot. * Protip: Call Ahead for Takeout! There is no indoor seating or even standing room. You have to order and wait outside. * We ordered the "BBQ for two" which was 1/2 rack ribs n 1/2 chicken. Split in two boxes I had the leg and thigh of the chicken she had the breast n wing. It came with 3 sides we got cole slaw baked beans and bacon Mac n cheese. Corn bread was included as well and one(1) side of BBQ sauce. We ordered a corn dog as well for my son as a backup (only $1 wow) The food: expectations were high. Chicken was moist and good dry rub. Ribs weren't as "fall off the bone" as I was anticipating. A bit tough actually. Bacon Mac n cheese was very disappointing. Very bland. Macaroni and Velveeta basically. With some soggy bacon pieces cut up in it. Baked beans were good. Regular canned beans spiced up and sliced up onions added with the above mentioned bacon slices. Cole slaw was fresh made. Corn bread had a nice smokey flavor and some of the dry rub sprinkled on top. Corn dog was standard. The dog itself was a bit under cooked for my personal preference. Overall the place is a 3.5 but there are just no other options in the area so if you are in Delco and want BBQ I would definitely suggest giving big daddy's a try.

We are about a 4 minute drive from Big Daddy'z and we love BBQ so we had to give it a shot. We got the BBQ for Two. It normally comes with a half rack of ribs, a half smoked chicken, cornbread, and three half pint sides. We weren't feeling chicken so we wanted to sub pulled pork for chicken. They happily obliged! Bingo. Went to pick it up (told us it would be ready in 15) it was ready when I got there (about 10 minutes from ordering). The outside looks like an alpine hut but inside differs. Barely enough room for two chairs and standing room in front of the register but whatever: I came for good BBQ, not the ambience. The service was prompt and friendly. The food came in two styrofoam containers evenly portioned while the sides came in separate containers. The ribs and pulled pork: DELICIOUS! The ribs were charred outside just enough and was generously smothered in a sweet/tangy BBQ sauce. The meat on the bone was pink, tender, and cooked excellently. You get your moneys worth of rib meat vs bone. The pulled pork was equally tender and went well with the sauce. The sauce didn't overpower the ribs or pork (this tends to happen as lesser BBQ places) but only enhanced the meat. The platter also came with a second, different sauce on the side which was a little more tangier and had a little more kick to it. I enjoyed dipping my ribs and pulled pork into it. The sides were decent. We got macaroni salad, cole slaw, and potato salad with bacon. Both the macaroni salad and cole slaw were pretty good. Sweet, right amount of vinegar, and seasoned well. The potato salad was probably the only slight disappointment of the night. You certainly tasted the bacon but the potatoes seemed slightly undercooked and the taste seemed plain (almost tasted like burnt bacon). Corn bread was good, wish there was more of it. This place is a great find! Small, unpretentious, and the food speaks volume for it's reputation. The meat was cooked perfectly. The sides were good but not great. We feel there is room for improvement so it matches the delicious pork. Overall some of the best BBQ we ever had and we will definitely be coming again! JUST PUT MORE CORNBREAD!

This is pretty decent barbecue for being outside the South. Not great, but good. It felt weird to have everything on a sandwich, but I guess we can attribute that to the Philly tradition of damn near everything being made into a sandwich. Brisket was good, a bit dry, kind of spicy. Potato salad and cole slaw were middling. Collards were dismal. The fries were great. Service was friendly and quick.

It has been a while since I've been here but I have never given this place it's much deserved review. Mainly b/c they are a competitor. I do BBQ catering. Anything I have had here has been very good. I think my favorite is the brisket. If you're looking for a good BBQ place in Delco this is your place.

This place is great! The BBQ here is crazy good! Especially when this place seems to be the size of my backyard shed with a awesome smoker on the side of it. The gentleman that runs the place seems to be very passionate about what he does. Got to flap my jaw with him, and seem to be a very down to earth kind of guy. This is not your big franchise kind of place. When the food is gone, it is gone. Get there early and get some great, real deal BBQ.

Healthy portions and delicious! Great sauce, tender chicken and ribs. Very taster to the bone. I will visit this place every time I go to Philly. Really close to the airport and is convenient to get to if you are going north or south from the airport. And we discovered it through yelp. You will not be dissaponted.

Big Daddy's is good-real good! Even though I've had them only once-for a pickup of their combo-half-rack ribs, quarter chicken, 2 sides, greens bacon mac n'cheese. The greens were ok-actually better than the other rib joints I've patronized, and I can tell the patience and pride that goes into their ribs and chicken. i did not like the bacon mac n' cheese. Even though it was filled with slices of bacon-it was mostly like macaroni noodles slathered with cheddar cheese-that's it. Also, maybe because I ordered in the first hour, I would like to think that was it-but their chicken and ribs were undercooked. Don't get me wrong-the sauce was first-rate! However, I am a foodie-I cook, bake, and experiment; when I feel like going or ordering out-especially at new places-I like to know what the reviews are; the reviews were good for this place. That's why I placed an order. That's why I'm giving them another try, only a little later. STAY TUNED!

In my area of Delco, people think that you're supposed to go to Famous Dave's to get good BBQ. I am much more of a BBQ snob. And I would like to thank the owner of this new BBQ joint for raising the bar for great BBQ in our area. They used to have a small shack in Norwood where they sold their BBQ but have since moved to a storefront in Ridley Park. So they are not technically new, but the location is. I've had them twice so far. I can tell when someone is serious about making good barbecue, and they are. So far, their barbecue chicken has impressed me the most. The skin is crispy, the smoke flavor is there, and you don't have to drench it in sauce to be good. The ribs are very good with a good crust on them. The wings are decent, but not the best thing on their menu. Their BBQ corn side is also excellent. I have more on the menu to try. I gotta get to work!

You know it's the real deal when you go a tire shop for your BBQ. -Call ahead -I think the wings are better than the local wing joints -Plenty of parking -Friendly service -Take out only. There is a picnic table out front though.

Overall, this is probably one of the best BBQ places in the area but certainly not when compared to what you can find down south. Very small shack. The only place to sit is out on a picnic table. I had the following: Pulled Pork: Pork had good texture but it was lacking in smoke taste. Beef Brisket: It had a decent amount of smokey flavor however it was sliced too thin (with a deli slicer) which affected to overall texture. Baked Beans: Tasted great, had bacon and onions which added nice flavor. I would have liked more smokey flavor though Corn: Nice flavor and texture. A little spicy Slaw and Potato Salad: Both tasted fresh and tasted good. Corn Bread: Had some actual corn in it. Good flavor and texture Overall, the portion sizes were good for the price. I would have liked more smokey flavor in everything. I was there right when they opened so maybe I was too early. I would recommend this place if you really need some BBQ.

OK so after numerous visits to this place I can irrevocably say this place is a quality place. Big Daddy'z is not only great BBQ it's honest to goodness, stick to your bones comfort food. I could go on with an elaborate explanation of every little item on menu or I could just sum it up by saying that carnivores can most certainly rejoice... You can simply do your choice of meat by the pound or you can get it done up in one of a variety of sandwiches. For the love of all that you hold dear do not forget to pick up a few sides to go with it.

Holy shit, am I glad I stumbled upon this place. In terms of BBQ in the suburbs, Famous Dave's is usually the best option besides doing your own grilling. Not anymore. Hidden in a tiny shop connected to an auto repair place on Chester Pike, is this gem, family-run. Hands down, the most satisfying BBQ I've ever had. Even the macaroni salad was great. This one of those places that is so good, you want to pick your spots in terms of eating there because you never want to ruin it. That's going to be impossible in this case. If you haven't tried Big Daddy'z, drop everything and go.

I love this place. None of the other bbq places around here are even close to as good as big daddy's. The sauce is amazing and the meat has always been moist and delicious. Maybe one time out of the 20 or so times Ive eaten there was it not quite up to their usual excellence. The sides are all pretty good but they wont blow you away. For some reason I love the fact that they're just a little place with no tables, attached to a tire place and when you go in there's always the same people, the usually pleasant women who takes your order and some big fat guy in a dirty tshirt cooking all the meats. There's something about that guy that I just love. So give this place a try the next time you have a hankering for bbq. You wont be disappointed.
